We cursed, ranted, raved, and generally hated installing the XP service pack 2 all those years ago (August 2004) because it reduced most file sharing programs to a screechingly slow rate with a misguided attempt to stifle evil nastyware from launching rapid outbound attacks across the Internet.

Yes, you heard that right. An East Texas court issued an injunction giving Microsoft 60 days to stop shipping Microsoft word. This applies to versions of word that can read or write to a .docx or .docm file. A company from Canada called i4i apparently holds a patent relating to the separation of formatting from text.
