5.1.0 beta25 is the last officially released beta version by Free Peers in September 2005. Being completely free of adware, spyware or any other extras like that, it is considered by Technutopia to be THE version to have (the latest BearShare--now owned by Musiclab, LLC--is available at the official BearShare website).


Since the beta has long expired, you will also need to download the BearStart utility to make the beta work again.

If you like, you can download 5.1.0 beta20, the last one released that contained the BearShare Community forum pages, released in June 2005. The BearShare forums no longer exist, but you get Technutopia's forums to display by applying a "patch", which is available here as well.


This beta also has no bundled software included, and you will need BearStart to run it.

Because they are older, there may be problems associated with them, both for yourself and others on the Gnutella network, but they are offered for download if you want to use them.


Note: The regular versions contain the WhenU advertising software, which is harmless, but it can be removed without affecting BearShare's performance. The Lite versions are slightly cut-down, but do not contain any advertising software.
