Bearshare & BEARFLIX
Well i used BS for a long time...and thought about a month ago i should probably just pay the $20 and get the PRO version..which i did.
So now it looks likes Bearshare dosnt really excist in its old form..not even fully sure why...read some stuff about RIAA?
Anyway...I was prompted with the update and did it...only now realising i updated to the new 5.2 Zangonated grape fruit version.
Also this thing came up called BEARFLIX and said it is free for BS pro users...what is it? i went to the link but was nothing there..just blank webpage?
My main question is, does the new BS Pro 5.2 have Adware /spyware like the old version does..Free version had adds..PRO didnt.
BS ZANGO free version has adds.....BS ZANGO PRO version have adds? is there even still a PRO version?
Is it just beter for me to DL the version you have on the forums..you say it is free, and no adds...it is the Beta...i think i had it before i was updated.
If i use that version you have linked in the other thread.... is it just like Pro but i wont have register etc.. More sources all that stuff? Better speeds, Muliple DL's etc.. or is it still a limited Free version..but no adds?
Im abit confused about all the versions.

The betas were always set up to perform faster than the regular versions. I
think Pro was supposed to be even better but B25 is so good I don't really care. ;]

Re: Bearshare updated automatically
I downloaded it and installed it. It appeared to be a knockoff of BearShare but said nothing about BS. The website that you are brought to does not mention BS either. The BS website says nothing about BearFlix
The installed program looks like BS and acts like it. After a bit, I uninstalled it. I figure I better wait until I know more about it.

Re: Bearshare updated automatically
The only BearFlix Google seems to find are related to gay, bareback activities.
Assuming you installed the affiliated Google search bar during the install (an option), I wonder if you had some gay related searches in progress and it was a popup/popunder from one of the advertisers that you saw relating to your search?
If you got to a blank webpage, I would be scanning your PC for compromises, just in case you have been the victim of a drive-by web browser attack...
That's a new twist: a " bear" friendly BearShare.

EWWWW.
So, is there adware in BS Pro now? Spybot and M$ Defender still peg BearShare as spyware...

Re: Bearshare & BEARFLIX
BearSharePro is alive and kicking and working fine, here. Today I used it for the first time in a few days and saw above the data a pointer to BearFlix, which led me to download BearFlixPro and look at the help file which has a load of useful information. It has been working all day, with more ultrapeers, and even made me an ultrapeer for a few hours until I had to throttle it down to get on with other bandwidth-hungry stuff. BearFlixPro detected my outstanding subscription without my intervention.

An MPAA compliant version of BearShare for movies?

If I may ask where is BearFlix hosted? That is, which website you visited to download it. Perhaps there is more information there. If it's new there may not be much to it yet, who knows where it will go.

From http://www.bearflix.com/help/faq.php...earShare_users
Quote:
Q: I can search for videos and images on BearShare why would I use BearFlix?
A: While BearShare does support searching and downloading of video files BearFlix just does it better. BearFlix is optimized for video and image downloading and sharing and thus should be used by users that are interested in such files

I find b25 to be excellent enough already for videos. Other than more handling
of metadata in searches like LimeWire, what could these guys possibly add?

The invitation link appeared in BearSharePro's display when I first loaded the program. I did not go looking for it. The help file says it comes from the same stable as BearShare. So far, the only problem I have noticed is in the search display.

Re: Bearshare & BEARFLIX
Commenting to my own message. I have noticed the following differences so far:
1.BF has crippled search facilities, does not search for other than image and video formats
2. BF's filter setup is crippled ditto.
3. BFPro at least jumps in and out of ultrapeer/leaf mode.
4. When BF connects to leaf mode it attaches three ultrapeers.
I cannot detect how BF is supposed to be better for my use than BS, I shall not bother further with it as things stand.

Re: Bearshare & BEARFLIX
Now I am being spammed by BearFlix. Every time I do a search in BearShare, a small window opens above the results display and exhorts me to download BearFlix, even though I did that a few days ago and subsequently decided it was not worth the effort. BSPro 5.2.5

Does using the Internet Options control panel applet to add www.bearshare.com
to your Restricted Sites Zone help? ;]
I haven't seen a popup ad from those guys in years.

It is not really a pop-up (I think), which I have banned (I hope). The search results get pushed down and the spam message gets inserted above it. BSPro5.2.5
Any use? Want a screen print?

If they're actually spamming the search page in the software why not use b25 instead?
Show us a screen shot. I still refuse to run 5.2 on my system. ;]

The screen shot is labelled 'BSFlixSpam.bmp'.
When I try to insert the image, using the 'insert image' icon, it asks for a URL so I suspect it is not intended for such things.
I uploaded it via the 'additional options', 'attach files' and hope this is the right way to do things?
